#LaRochelle
At the beach; Among nature; Near water
The island of Île de Re is located in the ocean, opposite La Rochelle, inviting families, couples and groups to enjoy the diversity of landscapes and sights. You can practice various water sports such as sailing, surfing, jet skiing and water skiing, among other activities such as tennis and mini-golf. Or leave on a bike ride or walk to get to know Ile de Re better. Make sure to visit typical villages such as Saint Martin de Re, Ars and Re, La Flotte and Re with its Les Chateliers abbey, Les Portes and Re with its bird sanctuary, La Couarde sur Mer and Saint Clement with its lighthouse and Conche de Baleines. The latter has got its name because many whales have come here and got stranded on the sand. Classified as a historical monument, the lighthouse offers a beautiful view of the island. Saint-Martin-de-Re and its strongholds built in Vauban style are also worth a visit. You can also take a boat trip to the island fortress, Fort Boyard. This was built to protect the port and the large arms factory of Rochefort against the attacks of the English navy. Shortly after construction it was converted into a prison. Music lovers can attend music festivals such as Re-Label (May), Music in Re (mid-July) or the Festival Jazz au Phare (mid-August). For those interested in maritime culture, the "celebration of the shell" was held at the end of September, where you can taste fish and try oyster farming. If you want to enjoy a relaxing day, pamper yourself in Sainte Marie de Re's spa (5 km from the apartment). Here you can enjoy special packages, such as oil baths, seaweed packaging and water aerobics.
