At the beach
Ericeira is located about 40 kilometers north of Lisbon on the Atlantic Coast. It is a traditional village with small alleys, white houses, squares with terraces and many restaurants and bars. The daily market is worth a visit. Because of the strong surf, the beaches of Ericeira belong to the best surfbeaches of Europe. One of the competitions of the Worldwide championship surfing is held on the beach of Praia de Ribeira d’Ilhas. For those that prefer quiet beaches there is sufficient choice such as the unspoiled beach of Praia de São Lourenço. Lobster and other fish and shell fish are a culinary specialty in the restaurants of Ericeira. Horse riding is possible at one of the two riding schools. You cannot miss Lisbon when you visit Portugal. The town on the Taag has many musea such as the Natural Historic Museum and the Museum for antique art. In the district of Barro Alto you can listen to the passionate national songs in the house of Fado. It is fun to walk around the small alleys and streets. Other sights in the region are among others the wine village of Torre Vedras and the monastery of Mafra. On the Westcoast you can visit the village of Sintra, placed on the UNESCO World heritage list. This village is famous for the numerous palaces, monuments and musea.
