Among nature
Head in the sun and feet in the water, the city of Montpellier offers a multitude of activities of all styles to travellers eager to discover its region. On foot or by Segway, let's go for the visit of the Surdouee. In terms of historical monuments and beautiful architecture, head towards the Babote tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the rue des Tresoriers de la Bourse and the Sainte-Foy chapel. The historic centre is also marked by numerous mansions with magnificent facades.
The city of Montpellier is also rich in museums:
The Museum of Anatomy which exhibits surgical instruments from earlier centuries;
The MOCO, a space dedicated to contemporary art;
The Fabre museum and its paintings by Monet, Poussin and Rubens;
The Art Brut museum.
But it is the plant garden that generally wins all the travellers’ votes. Dotted with small benches, it extends over nearly 4 hectares, and hosts an important collection of plants.
A few kilometres south of Montpellier, you will appreciate the village-like atmosphere of Villeneuve-les-Maguelone, a town situated in the middle of the vineyards, which attracts many birds. The atmosphere is peaceful, lulled by chirping, and offers you the opportunity for an authentic and restful stopover, with a visit to Saint-Pierre Cathedral and wine tasting at small local producers.
To the north-west of the town, the Pont du Gard has proudly stood out for thousands of years. You will be able to take beautiful pictures in front of this symbol of Roman power. The Romans were not so crazy, since the Oppidum d'Altimurium, located in Murviel-les-Montpellier is also in a very good state of conservation. But your holiday apartment in Montpellier is also not far from one of France's major sites. Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert is one of the most beautiful villages in France and is adorned with medieval remains.
Nearby: the Clamouse cave, the Herault gorges, and the Navacelles Cirque: enough to try speleology, climbing, or trekking in the middle of these majestic landscapes. Feel like a thrill? No problem: bungee jumping, piloting course, flight simulator, parachute jumping, or even a first helicopter flight, you will always remember your time in Montpellier!
